Welcome to Somewhere Beyond the Shoe

Aloha and welcome to Somewhere Beyond the Shoe, my new blog about my life after the Shoe, after the kids and beyond the chaos. Now that the child rearing is over and I am seemingly suddenly without form or void, I will be using this site to write about my new experiences. My first adventure, well not really my first, but my longest adventure without any of the kids was a two-week cruise to Hawaii.

I have been longing to go to the land of my mother’s birth for awhile; however, as a strict land lover and a firm believer of keeping one’s feet on the ground (aka afraid of flying), it was daunting to find a way to the Islands.

When my plans for my European trip were derailed, I was determined to visit my mother’s mutterland so I took the plunge and booked the cruise. My friend accompanied me and we had a wonderful time. Below are some of the wonderful sites we saw. I will write a longer blog about my trip to the Islands, the folks we visited, the friends we made and the food we ate. We ate a lot….I mean, a lot!

I hope this adventure is a precursor to many more. I still have my eye on a Transatlantic Crossing on the Queen Mary 2, but will have to wait until after I retire. Happily, we made a delightful Jamaican-born English friend, who I hope will permit me to visit when I get over there.

Well this is just a little note to tell everyone I am back online. I reactivated From the Shoe, so if you have a hankering to read any of the old blogs, they are available here. I hope you are all well. Aloha!
